HomeMemorial - Tom Bursh

Thomas W. "Tom" Bursh

April 30, 1925 - November 15, 2014

Thomas W. Bursh, age 89, a resident of Spring Meadows in Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2014 at Edward Hospital. He was born April 30, 1925 in Sandwich, IL.

Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Virginia; his loving sons, Tom (Karen) Bursh and Rick (Laura) Bursh; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Bursh, Andrew Thomas (Nicole) Bursh, Brittany (Adam) Countryman, Kelly (Matt) Timmons and Nicholas Bursh; his great-grandchildren, Carli and Tyler, Braden and Cody. Tom worked his entire career, 38 years with Western Electric Company, beginning at the Hawthorne Works where he met his bride Ginny. Upon retirement at the age of 58 he dedicated himself to an active volunteer role. Tom was involved with many Naperville organizations throughout the years. He was once president of Hawthorne Credit Union, overseeing the construction of its facility on Diehl Road and later Naperville Blvd. He was very involved along with wife Ginny with the Naperville Settlement, once being president and chairing the Antique Show fundraiser. He was elected to the Naperville Board of Education District 203 and later became president. His involvement was at the time Naperville North was constructed. The mayor appointed him to the board of Naperville Public Library and later elected president of the board. Active with Naperville Rotarians, he once served as president. He served as chairman of Congressman Fawell's advisory committee on education and was the district coordinator of the US Bicentennial Constitution and Bill of Rights competition with Bolingbrook winning state competition.
